Finding History Articles

In addition to writing books, historians also sometimes communicate the work they do in articles, typically published in scholarly (or peer reviewed) journals. Unlike most news or magazine articles, these works are written for an audience of other historians and will generally cite other scholarly sources heavily. These types of articles are found most reliably in the library's subscription databases. Some databases specialize in history publications that include the time periods covered in this class, notably:

These databases also include materials that would not be suitable for your research: book reviews (though you might use those to find useful books!), articles written for/by non-historians, and encyclopedias. Look carefully at what you find, and ask a librarian and/or your instructor if you're not sure.
