Composition Introduction

English Composition

The goal of the Composition courses is to provide students with the opportunity to practice writing skills that will enable them to write successfully in all their college classes. By the end of the course curriculum, students should be skillful at reading analytically and critically; their writing should demonstrate an understanding of organization, audience, voice, and the conventions of college-level written English.

Sources to get started

Good for:

  • exploring possible topics ideas
  • getting some background on a topic
  • identifying keywords
  • citations for additional sources.

If you know little about a topic and need a place to start, a Google search or a Wikipedia article can provide keywords and information you can then use to search library databases. Articles in library databases will be from credible sources and are usually much easier to cite.
